Who we are

Bar Lento is an Italian wine bar and bistro at 158 8th Ave (at W 18th St), Chelsea, New York, NY 10011, USA. This website, www.barlentony.com (also reachable at barlentony.com), was designed and developed in-house and is owned and operated by Bar Lento.

The short version: the site collects almost nothing about you. The one thing it can hold, an email address for our newsletter, is stored only if you choose to give it. Questions? Write to info@barlentony.com or call +1 908 379 0293.

Information we collect (and do not collect)

The only personal information the site stores is the email address of newsletter subscribers, described below. Otherwise:

• No cookies at all: the two preferences it remembers live in your browser's localStorage.
• No analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or social media plugins.
• No contact form, user accounts or payments; it never asks for your name or phone number.

Our database holds our content, images our staff upload for the home page or the newsletter, and the newsletter addresses; nothing else about visitors.

Newsletter

On your first visit a small centered pop-up invites you to leave an email address for occasional news from Bar Lento: new bottles, wine dinners, events. You can close it with "No thanks". It appears once per device: the site stores a flag named "bl-news" in your browser's localStorage so it is not shown again. The same form is also available above the footer. Signing up is optional.

Your birthday: the sign-up form also lets you leave the month and day of your birthday. It is optional. We never ask for the year. If you leave it, we use it for one thing only: sending you a birthday email from Bar Lento on that day. You can have it removed at any time by writing to info@barlentony.com.

What we store: your email address, the language you chose (English or Italian) and the date you signed up. It lives in the site's database, run by Upstash and hosted in the United States, and we send you a welcome email when you join.

How emails are sent: through Resend (resend.com), an email delivery service in the United States, from an @barlentony.com address. Resend processes your address to deliver each message and keeps delivery logs under its own privacy policy.

How often, and how to stop: one email now and then. Every email has a personal one-click unsubscribe link and our postal address, as the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act requires. Unsubscribing stops all further emails and marks your address as unsubscribed. You can also write to info@barlentony.com to be removed or to ask what we hold about you; we delete your address on request.

How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Unsubscribed addresses are kept only so we do not email you again. Addresses are used solely for Bar Lento's own news, never sold, rented or shared for anyone else's marketing.

Abuse protection: sign-up requests are rate-limited by IP address, and the form has an invisible anti-bot field. Your IP address is used only for this limit, kept for at most ten minutes, and never linked to your email address.

Server logs kept by our hosting provider

The site is hosted by Vercel in the United States. Like any web host, Vercel keeps standard server logs of each request: IP address, browser type and version, pages requested and time. They serve security and operations; we do not use them to identify or profile visitors. Vercel's privacy policy governs them.

Visit statistics without cookies

To know which pages are read and from which country, we use Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It records the page viewed, the referring site, the country, and the device and browser type; the IP address is used only to derive the country and a short-lived anonymous identifier that is discarded within a day, and it is never stored. We see only aggregate counts and cannot recognise individual visitors. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal or blocks the script, no data is collected.

Special requests

Private events, shoots and other special requests are handled by email: if you write to info@barlentony.com, we keep your message and your address only to answer you and organise what you asked for. We do not add you to the newsletter and we never share these details with anyone else. Write to the same address to have your messages deleted.

Who is browsing right now

The home page shows how many people are looking at the site at the same moment. While the page is open and visible, your browser sends our server a random, temporary identifier for that tab about every 40 seconds; it is created fresh on every visit, kept for less than two minutes, contains nothing about you, is not stored on your device and is never linked to your IP address or to anything else. When you close or hide the tab it is removed at once. We only ever see a number.

Browser storage

The site uses no cookies. Two small preferences live in your browser's localStorage: "bl-lang", your choice of English or Italian, and "bl-news", the fact that you have already seen the newsletter pop-up. Both stay on your device and are never sent to us. Clear your browser's site data to remove them; the pop-up may then appear once more.

The private editing panel used by authorized Bar Lento staff is not linked from the public page and can be reached only by people who know its address and password. A staff sign-in is kept in sessionStorage for that browser tab only.

Third-party services

A few parts of the site rely on, or link to, services run by other companies. Their privacy policies, not ours, apply to what they collect.

• Google Fonts: the typefaces (Bebas Neue and Jost) are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and user agent when the page loads.
• Resy: the reservation buttons link to Bar Lento's page on resy.com, and the page also loads Resy's official reservation widget script (widgets.resy.com/embed.js) when it opens, so that clicking "Reserve" opens Resy's booking window inside the site. Because the script loads with the page, Resy receives your IP address and browser information even before you click anything. If you reserve, the details you enter (name, contact, party size, time) are collected by Resy under Resy's own terms and privacy policy, not by this website; Bar Lento only receives the reservation itself through its Resy account.
• Upstash and Resend: our database and our email delivery service, both in the United States (see Newsletter).
• Google Maps and Instagram: the directions link and the @barlentonyc link open those sites in a new tab.

How we use information

Newsletter addresses are used only to send you our welcome email and our occasional news. We do not sell personal information or share it with anyone for marketing or advertising. If you contact us by email or phone, we use what you tell us only to answer you, and we never add you to the newsletter unless you sign up yourself.

Data security

New York's SHIELD Act requires businesses that hold private information about New York residents to use reasonable safeguards. This site holds as little as possible and protects what it does hold: it is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), the staff panel is password-protected and unlisted, and newsletter addresses are stored with nothing else attached to them. No system is perfectly secure, however.

Children

This site and its newsletter are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, in line with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. The site does not track visitors at all, so it treats every visitor as if that signal were on.

Your choices and rights

You can use this site without giving us any information. You may close the newsletter pop-up with "No thanks", unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email, clear the two preferences by clearing your browser's site data, and block requests to Google Fonts or Resy in your browser.

To know, correct or delete what we hold about you, whether from the newsletter or a message you sent us, email info@barlentony.com and we will respond. Visitors from other states or countries with privacy rights under their local laws may use the same address.

Changes to this policy

This version adds the newsletter and the Resy reservation widget, introduced in September 2026. If the site changes again, we will update this policy and its effective date; the version posted here is the one that applies. This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA.

Newsletter

Alla tua prima visita, una piccola finestra pop-up al centro della pagina ti invita a lasciare un indirizzo email per ricevere di tanto in tanto notizie da Bar Lento: nuove bottiglie, cene degustazione, eventi. Puoi chiuderla con "No, grazie". Compare una sola volta per dispositivo: il sito salva un indicatore chiamato "bl-news" nel localStorage del tuo browser in modo che non venga mostrata di nuovo. Lo stesso modulo è disponibile anche sopra il piè di pagina. L'iscrizione è facoltativa.

Il tuo compleanno: il modulo di iscrizione permette anche di lasciare mese e giorno del tuo compleanno. È facoltativo. Non chiediamo mai l’anno. Se lo lasci, lo usiamo per una sola cosa: mandarti quel giorno un’email di auguri da Bar Lento. Puoi farlo rimuovere in qualsiasi momento scrivendo a info@barlentony.com.

Cosa conserviamo: il tuo indirizzo email, la lingua che hai scelto (inglese o italiano) e la data di iscrizione. Il dato risiede nel database del sito, gestito da Upstash e ospitato negli Stati Uniti, e al momento dell'iscrizione ti inviamo un'email di benvenuto.

Come vengono inviate le email: tramite Resend (resend.com), un servizio di invio email con sede negli Stati Uniti, da un indirizzo @barlentony.com. Resend tratta il tuo indirizzo per recapitare ogni messaggio e conserva i registri di consegna secondo la propria informativa sulla privacy.

Con quale frequenza, e come interrompere: un'email ogni tanto. Ogni email contiene un link personale per disiscriversi con un solo clic e il nostro indirizzo postale, come richiesto dalla legge statunitense CAN-SPAM Act. Disiscrivendoti interrompi ogni ulteriore invio e il tuo indirizzo viene contrassegnato come disiscritto. Puoi anche scrivere a info@barlentony.com per essere rimosso o per chiedere quali dati conserviamo su di te; su richiesta cancelliamo il tuo indirizzo.

Per quanto tempo lo conserviamo: finché non ti disiscrivi o non ci chiedi di cancellarlo. Gli indirizzi disiscritti vengono conservati solo per non scriverti di nuovo. Gli indirizzi sono usati esclusivamente per le notizie di Bar Lento e non vengono mai venduti, ceduti in affitto o condivisi per il marketing di terzi.

Log del server conservati dal nostro provider di hosting

Il sito è ospitato da Vercel negli Stati Uniti. Come ogni fornitore di hosting, Vercel conserva i normali log del server per ciascuna richiesta: indirizzo IP, tipo e versione del browser, pagine richieste e orario. Servono per la sicurezza e il funzionamento del servizio; non li usiamo per identificare o profilare i visitatori. Sono regolati dall'informativa sulla privacy di Vercel.

Statistiche di visita senza cookie

Per sapere quali pagine vengono lette e da quale paese usiamo Vercel Web Analytics. Non imposta cookie e non salva nulla nel browser. Registra la pagina vista, il sito di provenienza, il paese e il tipo di dispositivo e browser; l’indirizzo IP serve solo a ricavare il paese e un identificativo anonimo temporaneo, scartato entro un giorno, e non viene mai conservato. Vediamo soltanto conteggi aggregati e non possiamo riconoscere i singoli visitatori. Se il browser invia il segnale "Do Not Track" o blocca lo script, non viene raccolto alcun dato.

Richieste speciali

Eventi privati, shooting e altre richieste speciali si gestiscono via email: se scrivi a info@barlentony.com, conserviamo il tuo messaggio e il tuo indirizzo solo per risponderti e organizzare quello che hai chiesto. Non ti iscriviamo alla newsletter e non condividiamo questi dati con nessuno. Scrivi allo stesso indirizzo per far cancellare i tuoi messaggi.

Chi sta sfogliando il sito in questo momento

La pagina iniziale mostra quante persone stanno guardando il sito nello stesso momento. Finché la pagina è aperta e visibile, il browser invia al nostro server un identificativo casuale e temporaneo di quella scheda circa ogni 40 secondi; viene creato nuovo a ogni visita, conservato per meno di due minuti, non contiene nulla su di te, non viene salvato sul tuo dispositivo e non è mai collegato al tuo indirizzo IP né ad altro. Quando chiudi o nascondi la scheda viene rimosso subito. Noi vediamo soltanto un numero.

Memorizzazione nel browser

Il sito non usa cookie. Due piccole preferenze vivono nel localStorage del tuo browser: "bl-lang", la tua scelta tra inglese e italiano, e "bl-news", il fatto che hai già visto il pop-up della newsletter. Entrambe restano sul tuo dispositivo e non ci vengono mai inviate. Per rimuoverle, cancella i dati dei siti dal tuo browser; il pop-up potrebbe allora comparire un'altra volta.

Il pannello di modifica privato usato dal personale autorizzato di Bar Lento non è collegato dalla pagina pubblica ed è raggiungibile solo da chi ne conosce l'indirizzo e la password. L'accesso del personale viene conservato nel sessionStorage soltanto per quella scheda del browser.

1. Acceptance of these terms

This is the website of Bar Lento, an Italian wine bar and bistro in Chelsea, New York (www.barlentony.com). By using it you accept these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy; if you do not, please do not use the site.

2. What this site is for

The site presents our restaurant in English and Italian: menus, wine list, story, opening hours, address and contacts. It is for general information only. Nothing on it is an offer, a contract or a guarantee, and it does not replace speaking with our staff.

3. Menu, prices and availability

Our menu changes with the seasons. Dishes, wines, prices (in US dollars), availability and opening hours may change without notice, and the site may not always show the latest version. The menu and prices that apply are those presented at the restaurant.

4. Allergens and dietary information

Allergen indications on our menus (for example "Dairy | Gluten") are provided in good faith, as a guide only. Our kitchen handles all major food allergens, so cross-contact cannot be excluded, and recipes can change. If you have a food allergy, intolerance or dietary requirement, you must tell our staff before ordering, on every visit. Do not rely on the website alone to decide what is safe for you.

5. Raw or undercooked food advisory

Some dishes contain, or may contain, raw or undercooked ingredients. Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness. Ask our staff if you are unsure how a dish is prepared.

6. Alcohol

We serve alcohol only to guests aged 21 or older with valid, government-issued photo ID, as New York State law requires. The wine list on this site is for information only: the site does not sell alcohol and takes no orders or payments.

7. Reservations

Reservations are handled by Resy (resy.com), an independent service we do not control, not by this website. Our "Reserve" buttons open Resy's booking window inside our pages (Resy's official widget) or our page on resy.com. Any booking and the details you enter are covered by Resy's terms and privacy policy; we receive only the reservation itself. The widget loads with the page, so Resy receives your IP address and browser details even if you do not book.

8. Newsletter

You may leave your email address to receive occasional news from Bar Lento (new bottles, wine dinners, events). Subscribing is optional. You can unsubscribe at any time with the one-click link in every email or by writing to info@barlentony.com. Submit only an email address you are entitled to use; do not sign up others or use automated means. Our emails comply with the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act; see our Privacy Policy for how we handle your address.

9. Ownership and intellectual property

This website was designed and developed in-house and is owned and operated by Bar Lento. Its texts, the Bar Lento name and wordmark, the line-drawing illustrations, images, layout, design and source code are the property of Bar Lento or used under license. Copyright 2026 Bar Lento. 10. Permitted use

You may view the site and print or save pages for personal, non-commercial use. Search engines may index the public pages and show excerpts, and you may share links to the site. Any other use requires our prior written permission.

11. Prohibited use

Without our written permission, you may not:

• copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, frame, mirror or embed any part of the site or its content, or create derivative works from it;
• scrape, crawl or harvest content by automated means (bots, scripts, AI crawlers or similar), or use it to train or feed AI systems; ordinary search-engine indexing is allowed;

12. Third-party links and services

The site links to Resy (reservations), Google Maps (directions) and Instagram (@barlentonyc); only Resy's widget is embedded in our pages. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, terms or privacy practices; a link is not an endorsement. Our host (Vercel) keeps standard server logs; our fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and browser details; our newsletter is sent through Resend. The site sets no cookies and does no tracking. See our Privacy Policy.

13. Disclaimer of warranties

We take care to keep the site accurate, but as a small independent restaurant we cannot promise that it is complete, current, error-free or always available. To the extent the law allows, the site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties, express or implied.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent New York law allows, Bar Lento will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of, or reliance on, this website, and our total liability for any claim related to the website will not exceed USD 100. These limits do not cover liability the law does not allow us to limit (such as fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct), our responsibility for the food and drink we serve at the restaurant, or your rights under the New York General Business Law.

15. Indemnification

If your use of the site in breach of these terms or the law causes a claim, loss or expense to Bar Lento, you agree to compensate us for the reasonable costs that result, including reasonable attorneys' fees.

16. Governing law and venue

New York law governs these terms and any dispute relating to the site, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Unless the law gives you a right to sue elsewhere that cannot be waived, any legal action will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts in New York County, New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Please contact us first to resolve matters informally.

17. Severability and waiver

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, it will be limited or removed as far as necessary and the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a provision does not stop us from enforcing it later.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the site or the law changes. The current version, with its effective date, is always published here. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Bar Lento wants everyone to be able to read our menu, find our hours and book a table, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This statement explains what we have done on this website and how to reach us if something does not work for you.

What we do on this site

• Every page works with a keyboard alone: you can move through links, buttons and forms with Tab, and the current element is always visibly highlighted.
• Headings, landmarks and lists are marked up in the standard way, so screen readers can announce the structure of the page and jump between sections.
• Illustrations are decorative and hidden from screen readers; images that carry meaning have a text alternative.
• Text and background colors are chosen for contrast that meets the WCAG 2.2 AA guideline, and text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content.
• The site adapts to phones, tablets and desktops and works in portrait and landscape.
• Menus and the wine list are real text, not pictures, so they can be read aloud, enlarged or translated by your browser.
• Animations are minimal and respect the "reduce motion" setting of your device.
• The newsletter pop-up can be closed with the Escape key or the "No thanks" button, and it never appears more than once per device.

Standard we aim for

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We review the site ourselves with automated checks and manual testing with a keyboard and a screen reader. Some parts may still fall short, and content changes frequently: if you find a problem, please tell us.

Third-party services
